Grass Snake Found on Front Lawn!

This morning, I was greeted by an unexpected sight on my front lawn - a grass snake! This is the first time I've ever seen one in my neighbourhood, so it was quite a surprise.

Grass snakes are generally harmless to people, and are often mistaken for venomous snakes. They can grow up to 2 metres in length, and are usually olive green or brown in colour. They feed mainly on small mammals, amphibians and birds.

Mysterious Snake Found in Back Yard!

When Ruthie awoke Saturday morning, she was surprised to find a snake sunning itself on the back porch. She quickly called her husband to take a look.

The couple called their local wildlife center to ask for help identifying the snake. They were told it was likely a Rat Snake, although they couldn't be sure without getting a closer look. The wildlife center offered to send someone out to take a closer look, but Ruthie's husband declined.

"We're not exactly fans of snakes," he told the representative on the phone. "We'll just try to keep our distance and leave it alone."

Ruthie made sure to keep an eye on the snake while she tended to her garden. It didn't move from its spot on the porch, but she still felt uneasy around it. She decided it would be best not to let her children outside until the snake had moved on.

Later that day, Ruthie's husband went out onto the porch to check on the snake and found that it was gone! He searched all around but couldn't find it anywhere. They assumed it must have slithered away into the woods behind their house. They were both relieved and disappointed all at once – relieved that they didn't have to worry about a big snake in their backyard, but disappointed that they never got to learn what kind of snake it was.
